Job Description: STEM Educator/Camp Director
FLSA: Exempt, Full-Time (40 hours/week)
Reporting to: Education Department Manager

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead development and implementation of CSC summer and school vacation science camp programs for children primarily in grades 1 – 6. Tasks include:
○ Work with STEM Education and Marketing to decide on program themes
○ Oversee the development of camp specific programming
○ Manage program delivery
○ Oversee administration of all paperwork for campers as well as staff scheduling
○ Manage program budget and ordering of materials
○ Hire, train and manage temporary summer personnel
○ Coordinate and oversee all licensing and regulatory documentation for the program
○ Act as the primary contact to other departments in their efforts to market camp programs and attend appropriate informational fairs
○ Act as point of contact for parents to answer questions both during the registration process and during camp.

• Facilitate inquiry-based, hands-on science and engineering related education programs to a variety of audiences. Programs will include on-site and off-site classes and activities as well as theater stage shows targeted to PK – 12 students
• Train, observe and provide feedback to new staff as they come up to speed on our education program offerings
• Assist in the development of new and revision of existing inquiry-based, hands-on science and engineering related programming. This will include programs to be delivered as a general offering – on-site and/or off-site – to school groups (PK – 12), as part of the Teen • Innovation or other youth programs, custom programs for school partners, etc.
• Perform other duties as required.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field and/or education demonstrating a strong foundation and background in a STEM discipline
• Experience working with elementary and middle school-aged children in a camp setting
• Experience as Camp Director or Assistant Director a plus.
• Knowledge of best practices used in the teaching and learning of science
• Understands the importance and value of being a member of a larger cross-functional and intra departmental team
• Skilled in current technology used to create dynamic and engaging programs
• Excellent presentation and communication skills
• Familiarity with the CT K-12 Science Curriculum Frameworks and/or the Next Generation Science Standards
• Previous experience creating and teaching inquiry-based, hands-on science programs
• Flexible schedule to work evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary
• Must possess a valid CT driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record to drive to off-site locations

Physical Requirements:

• Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing.
• Frequent standing, walking, stooping, and sitting for extended periods of time.
• Reach with hands and arms, seeing, hearing, speaking, and writing clearly.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move supplies and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels and speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in classrooms.
• Keen sense of smell when dealing with chemicals.
• Ability to drive a motor vehicle.
